Learner Driver Course
A practical low-risk defensive driving course for Learner drivers, introducing the survival techniques not taught within the licensing system.
More than learning how to pass the driving test.
Learning to operate a vehicle and passing the practical driving test are important milestones, but becoming a low-risk driver involves much more.
Roadcraft's Learner Driver Course is designed to complement normal supervised driving experience by developing the awareness, judgement and low-risk techniques young drivers will rely on once they begin driving independently.
Across two days, participants explore vision and hazard perception, situational awareness, following distance, vehicle dynamics and strategies for recognising and avoiding risk before an emergency develops.
Practical exercises, including emergency braking and activities on our wet training surfaces, allow learners to safely experience vehicle limitations in a controlled environment. The emphasis isn't on teaching advanced vehicle-handling skills or creating greater confidence — it's on helping young drivers understand how quickly those limitations can be reached and why avoiding the situation in the first place is the safer option.
We recommend attending after approximately 30–50 hours of supervised driving, when learners have developed enough basic vehicle control to concentrate on awareness and risk management, but still have plenty of supervised driving ahead in which to practise and reinforce what they learn.
This course is subsidised with a $180 discount through funding from the Queensland Government’s Community Road Safety Grants Scheme.
